‘a² + b² = c²’
  (2024)

a² + b² = c² exists as an exact replica of the Pendle Hill trig point, with one distinction: it houses the touch marks collected from walkers over one day in the field. The concrete material of trig points designed for longevity is unable to capture the trace of each walker, so the artist used clay to suspend each moment of contact in time.

Specialist transportation devices were built to carry the clay to the summit of Pendle, laid on top of the trig, carried down and monumentalised in plaster. This queering of the iconic trig point invites intrigue on behalf of the viewer, the artist encourages a tactile exploration of the work, highlighting the intimacy of the tradition between walker and trig.
