‘Both a World and a Wound’
  (2022)

Both a world and a wound is inspired by the process of scarification, places where our skin’s membrane split, and the traces that remain as a result. The artist presents the skin as a documentation of our lives and scars as the markers of a body that has lived and healed, replicating a keloid scar in oak.

Carving was chosen because of its reductive nature, meaning the sculpture's creation could imitate the formation of the original scar. Healing scars is a natural, imperfect, lengthy and uncomfortable process, so it was vital this was mimicked throughout the work’s creation
