In modern society, megaliths exist within a state of flux. To some, they are archaeological sites that must be excavated and preserved from human impact; to others, they are a place for sacred religious ceremonies and celebrations, experienced through touch and gatherings.
The separation of these experiences exists across much of the literature surrounding megaliths. However, this divide between scientific and spiritual interpretations limits our understanding of these places and the lives of our ancestors who built them. This Land Remembers aims to celebrate the duality of ancient sites, using historical research to ground explorations into modern paganism, ritual and hauntology.
The book does not attempt to present a perfect reconstruction of the lives or “ghosts” of our pre-industrial ancestors but focuses on exploring a connection to the past that exists beyond language and definition. In essence, This Land Remembers serves as an invitation for readers to explore and interrogate the ancient sites of The Albion, and explore their personal relationship to our collective past.
